IRBLleida is a Research Institute of the CERCA network in which the University of Lleida and the Catalan Health Institute participate. As a mixed organism between the University and the health system, IRBLleida is committed to advancing biomedical research as a means to improve the health of the population and to facilitate an optimal healthcare activity in situations of illness. The interaction between the professionals of both institutions must allow synergies to facilitate this task.

The University Hospital Arnau de Vilanova de Lleida (HUAV), belonging to the Catalan Health Institute, is the center of reference for acute patients in the health regions of Lleida and the Alt Pirineu i Aran. It also exerts influence on the eastern part of Aragon. The population included in these territories totals the figure of 450,000 inhabitants.
